USA 2002/03
An unforgetable year in Mohnton, PA. I was a senior at Governor Mifflin High, which wasn't really the big academic challenge, but I learned a lot abouth the american culture and mentality. I stayed with some relatives that I already knew. They always paid for me and they took to many different places including Texas and Florida. They also paid most of my trip to Hawaii...for not to mention countless visits in Pennsylvania, Maryland og New Jersey.
I made some good friends that I ended the year and school with. We spend a week in Ocean City, Maryland celebrating summer and graduation.
ARRIVAL
The first few months were pretty hard because I didn't know anybody and was completely dependent on the family to drive me and pick me up. I played tennis on the school team and I met people easily because I was "foreign".
The school level was low and it was choking how little the students knew about their country, and even less about the world. But it fired up some interesting debates.
I elected as many creative classes as possible, because they are not available in Denmark. My favorites were Ceramics and Photography. Easy, relaxin and fun!
SCHOOL AND SUMMER
During the spring I became good friends with Lori, Aileen and Liz and they took good care of me in terms of parties, mini-sightseeing trips and other crazyness.
Because I was a senior I got to participate in all the extra stuff arrangered for the graduating class, including a foam-game in the local pool-park. I also got a diploma and participated in their Graduation ceremony where I got to wear their ugly outfit.
Summer was spent at several different pools - public as well as private
GOODBYE
After school ended I followed tradition and went with my friends to spend a week on the beach. I wasn't really supposed to go along, but ended up being a part of it anyway. We stayed a a really cheap hotel, where there was a bomb threat one night..very exciting and very American. We had a lot of fun...
When I got back I had a few days left to spend with the family before going back home. The night before leaving me and some friends camped out in the back yard and used to pool one last time...
