Latin America

Cuba 2008

I went back to Cuba again, this time with a friend who shares my faschination for Cuba. We spent at month visiting Habana, Santiago de Cuba (carnaval!!!), Gibara (a small fished village in Holguín) and Matanzas. We chose not to travel much and instead spend more time with our friends. They gave us some wonderful and unforgetable memories as always!

Cuba juli/august 2007

After my first visit to Cuba I was so fascinated that I had to go back. I worked most of the summer and then went back to the country where I got to stay both as a tourist and more among the Cuban people!

Mexico og Cuba 2007

After two months with MS we were looking forward to travelling on our own. I travelled with a Danish girl from the brigade for about 1,5 months. We spent about 1 month in Mexico and two weeks in Cuba.

Guatemala, Mellemfolkeligt Sammenvirke 2007

-to see the blog click here.
I went with the Danish organization Mellemfolkeligt Sammenvirke (MS) back to Guatemala to be part of a study brigade and to improve my Spanish. The brigade lasted two months, one month with language school and one month with actual brigade-work. We learned a great deal about Guatemala and Central America in regards to culture, history and politics. We arrived incredibly naive and ignorent and even though the brigade in no way lived up to our expectations or the level we had hoped, we got to learn a lot about our selves, humanity in general and about how important the access to information really is.

Guatemala and South America 2005/2006

My first trip to Latin America lasted 8 months and I got to travel through large parts of the continent of South America enjoying the life of being a tourist. I also started studying Spanish for the first time. We spent 14 days in Guatemala, and the remainder of the time we spent in South America. It was a wonderful trip where we had about 1 month in each country we visited. We remained tourists through out the 8 months and only just scratched the surfuce of what life's really like, but we still learned a lot. We left on september 30th 2005. The 8 months sounded like a really long time, but time flew by and when we returned home it was with mixed feelings. Had I had more money left I might have stayed longer! The trip was ambitious and "well-planned". We started out in Guatemala and wanted to go from there to Mexico etc. etc., but already after 14 days of travelling we had to be evacuated from Guatemala because of the Hurricane Stan. The country was devastated and we got help to travel on to Ecuador. The whole trip was turned upside down and instead we travelled: Ecuador - Colombia - Ecuador - Peru - Chile - Argentina - Uruguay - Bolivia - Pero and Ecuador again. We went up and down, back and forth, but it was a great feeling returning to places we had been before. Places where we knew a few faces and felt more at home. We flew home from Lima on May 12th 2006.
