Colombia...the land of conflicts, danger, drugs, etc. The country where all the boys danced like a dream, the rythms, the modern country, the beautiful, untouched and the loved country. Colombia will never be forgotten.
To travel in South America was exciting, but travelling through Colombia was fantastic. The country was richer and more modern than most of the continent, many Colombians spoke English and everyone was eager to show the wonderful side of their notorious drug empire and their beautiful nature paradise. The safety in Colombia was an experience in itself. There is military everywhere because of the guerrilla and the paramilits and the military don’t do much other than stand around and charm the girls that pass by. And the Colombian women are for sure the most beautiful women in the world!
It was also rather interesting to see that the drugs were mainly consumed by tourists and that the gringos are the ones spoiling society…
Celebrating Christmas in a small village at the CaribbeanCoast…dancing with the local kids and their grandparents. Dancing with the young people on Christmas Eve until sunrise…Celebrating New Years with rich Colombians on the wall surrounding the famous colonial Cartagena…hearing an old lady calling you “amor” and the sentence “a la orden” every five sec…Colombia, I hope to come back soon, mi Amor!!!!
Guide Books like Lonely Planet don't really cover the country. The smartest thing to do is to buy a local guide covering the real sights of the country.
Cartagena
Taganga
Santa Marta & Parque Nacional Tayrona
Barraquilla
San Gil
Bogotá
Medellín
Popayán
The Coffee District & Cali
Colombia isn't dangerous - or not any more dangerous than other countries. With regular travelling precautions and with a bit of reasonability Colombia is a traveler-friendly country. If you look lost someone will come help you for sure. The Colombian people is very warm and open and excellent at showing of their country - especially the night life. Enjoy!
